The "Real" Story

Kevin Short and Dana Rider met in Alcoholics Anonymous and together conceived a vision for a sober living home.  With multiple years of recovery and experience in treatment centers and halfway houses across the country, both as clients and staff, they realized that they shared a common dream for what a traditional "halfway house" could be.  They wanted to build a sober home, where everyone involved truly cares.  It would not be just a "bed for rent."  It would be a place that anyone would be proud to call home.  as their thoughts continued to evolve from this basic foundation, they realized that they wanted a clean, safe home in a good neighborhood. Most importantly they wanted recovery, structure, and a group of young men that could relate to each other.  Real Recovery was a vision emotionally rooted in the time spent dreaming such a place existed when they found their own recovery and this is what they have created.  Kevin and Dana have multiple years of personal recovery as well as years of experience working professionally in the treatment community.  They have been through exactly what their residents have been through and are honest about what it takes to stay sober.  Our home does not employ a hired house manager.  The Real Recovery home is run on a daily basis by Kevin and Dana along with partners, Zachary Miller and Curt Schrank.  One of them is always on shift, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  This sets Real Recovery apart from other sober living facilities where the outsourcing of day-to-day care to a paid house manager is unfortunately the industry standard.  The Real Recovery house is run exclusively by it's owners. This allows for personalized and quality care not found anywhere else.  The feeling that a parent experiences knowing that their child is not going to an institution but to a home allows for peace of mind and comfort.  We can guarantee that every young man who walks through the doors of Real Recovery with the desire to stay sober will get the personalized care that they deserve.   Real Recovery operates under a unique philosophy:
